Year 5 and Year 6 Transition Information

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you and your families are remaining well, whilst we continue to live with the COVID-19 pandemic. You will have heard the Education Secretary’s recent announcement about schools reopening and we now know that schools will not be opening to all pupils before the end of the summer term. Schools must continue to implement a safety-first approach and only open to more pupils where it is safe to do so.

I cannot tell you how much all of the staff would like to have the children back in school, but the reality is that under Government guidelines this is not possible. Having reviewed our current offer and taking into account the transition arrangements for Year 6 pupils, I have made the difficult decision for our Year 6 provision to end on Friday 26th June. I am aware that secondary schools have already been in touch, detailing their transition offers. Wolverhampton secondary schools will also be arranging virtual engagement activities and enrichment activity packs, containing work based on the book ‘Wonder’. Miss Ingham and Mr Richards will still be keeping in touch, offering support and additional tasks. A separate letter with details of the ways we hope to celebrate your time with us will follow in the next few days.

The current offer for Key workers, Reception and Year one pupils will remain unchanged. Given that the Year 6 offer will end on Friday 26th June, we will be offering two days per week for Year 5 pupils from Monday 29th June. All places must be booked by Wednesday 24th June, in order for staffing to be finalised. Please complete the booking form below or email the school office. We have allocated Monday and Tuesday to pupils in 5W with Thursday and Friday reserved for 5HS children. These sessions will give your child an opportunity to get a feel for year 6 and meet with their new class teachers.

As we approach the end of the school year I am sure it will remain memorable to us all for lots of different reasons. I am hopeful that come September, even if there are still some restrictions in place, we will be able to have a new start with all children returning. I will be writing with information regarding classes for the new school year, reports etc before the end of term. We appreciate that this is a challenging time and if school can help, please do not hesitate to contact either myself via the school office or class teachers using the year group emails.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Walker
