We have worked hard to ensure that the children have had an opportunity to represent our school in a wide range of sporting events as well as have the opportunity to try different sport for the first time.
We have continued to achieve sporting success and increased participation in a range of sports.
Netball/High Five Team
We competed against two local schools in our area, entering two teams. We lost one game and won the second. We competed well and the children enjoyed representing the school.
Last season, invited to play in a tournament (mixed gender) to celebrate the opening of the new Wolves indoor training ground.
One of our girls was invited to train with the Wolves girls academy.
Last season, took both a boys and a girls team to play at the GOALS outdoor tournament.
Last season, winning two and drawing one of our five games.
This summer, hoping to set up our own football tournament with local schools.
We have a very successful year in gymnastics at Wodensfield. 10 Key Stage 1 and 35 Key Stage 2 pupils competed in the Wolverhampton Schools Gymnastics Competitions. Overall we finished in 3rd place in both Key Stages. We were extremely pleased with this as it was our first time entering the competition. We also had 8 individual medallists. Our 3rd place finishes
qualified us to represent Wolverhampton in the Black Country Youth Games in June at Wolverhampton University competing against the best schools from Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall. All of our pupils performed brilliantly and displayed beautiful gymnastics skills. Our Year 3&4 team finished in 3rd place and we were very proud to see them collecting their bronze medals.
Our Year 5 & 6 Cheerleading Squad once again wowed the audience at the Wolverhampton Schools Diversity Celebration at the Civic Hall in October. Over 35 girls performed to a packed and very vocal audience and some of them even gave an interview to Kic FM after the show.
For the 2nd year running our Sportshall Athletics team won the Wednesfield heat in the first round of the competition and went through to the city finals at Aldersley Stadium. Our team of 7 boys and 7 girls performed magnificently on the night and finished in 6th place out of the original number of 60 schools who entered the competition.
Due to a clash with the date for the athletics competition and the Year 6 trip to Barmouth, we were unable to take a full Year 6 team to compete this year. But we did not need to worry: We were fortunate to have a very keen number of Year 5 pupils desperate to step up and compete. We did not manage to qualify for the finals night, but the performances of our pupils gave us great hope for next year.
