3HW have had great fun this week using clay to make beakers, just like the ones used by the Beaker People in the Bronze Age. Beaker People used the beaker to store food and smelt tin and copper to make bronze. Beakers were found by archaeologists in the graves of Bronze Age people, which emphasises how important they were and they have helped historians to understand how Beaker People lived.

Our Nursery children are settling well into their new environment, making new friends and enjoying lots of fun learning experiences each day. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow and we look forward to sharing many more exciting learning adventures with you.

In Science, Year 6 explored the digestive system with a hands-on experiment! Using a tube as the oesophagus and tights as the intestines, they followed the journey of food through the body and discovered how our digestive system works.

This year’s theme in “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change”. We’re celebrating a day early at school by wearing yellow.

It was lovely to see so many of our parents attend our reading session. It is a lovely opportunity to read with your child and share their book in class. We would love to see even more parents where possible each Tuesday at 2:55pm :)

This week 3HW visited Tanglewood at Cannock Chase to take part in a Stone Age Day. They had super fun working in a tribe to build a shelter, start their own fire and practise their archery skills ready to hunt the saber-toothed tigers. They behaved outstandingly and learnt so many new facts whilst also having so much fun along the way. It was a day enjoyed by all and one to always remember!

Throughout October, Year 6 are learning about inspirational Black historical figures. Today, children wore cultural clothing and the colours red, black and green to celebrate Black History Month. It was wonderful to see so many children embracing the occasion and celebrating the rich diversity of our community.

Today, we came together to celebrate Harvest Festival, led by Mrs Moore-Patrick, and we were delighted to be joined by Reverend Kate from St Thomas' church. The children sang beautifully and took part with great enthusiasm, helping to make the occasion a special one. Thank you to all our families for your generous harvest donations. Your kindness and support will help those in our local community.

Today, our children tasted Maya chocolate as part of their history learning. They discovered that it was very different from the sweet chocolate we enjoy today and were all brave enough to give it a try! In music with Mr.Wilcox this week the children combined the sound of the claves and their voices to create rhythmical patterns.

In science, 1T have been exploring senses. The children had lots of fun tasting different foods and comparing them to see which foods were sweet, salty, sour, bitter and savoury. We were surprised to find that crisps were a firm class favourite! We have also been drawing pictures while restricting our sight, testing out musical instruments to hear the different sounds that they make and enjoyed being detectives by trying to ‘guess the smell’. In Geography 2H practised their map reading skills by taking part in an orienteering activity. Their challenge was to find letters hidden around the playground that would spell out the word GEOGRAPHY.

In Science, the children have being learning about their senses. Today we learnt about different tastes. They have sampled: Sweet, salty, sour, bitter and savoury flavours. 1E enjoyed the different flavours, textures and smells and had fun discussing the difference’s.

Today 3HW identified the speech in an extract from their 'Whole Class Reading' book, Sulwe. They worked in partners to then use the speech to perform the extract in front of their classmates. We had great fun and enjoyed watching the performances that showed feeling and thoughts about the characters we have studied.

On Thursday 17th September, Wodensfield participated in Manny’s mile. Manny committed to running 50 miles over two days at 50 different primary schools to raise money for Dementia UK. All children and staff came out onto the playground to cheer Manny on and he was joined by School Council Representatives in his mile run around the playground.

3HW had great fun this afternoon exploring different emotions and how the body reacts to different feelings. We discussed how body language can be read to understand how people are feeling. We then in pairs made different freezes to express a feeling and played a game called 'Guess the Emotion'. Here are a few of our freeze frames - can you guess the emotion?

As part of our science learning this week we have been identifying parts of the human body and labelling them. During our afternoon session today we had the opportunity to draw around our friends and label the body parts that we know - these included tricky labels such as ankle and elbow.
