Maya chocolatl

Maya "chocolatl" refers to the ancient Maya’s spiced, bitter chocolate drink. It was consumed in ceremonies and was considered a sacred gift from the gods, used for energy, and even as currency. Unlike modern hot chocolate, the original beverage was unsweetened and often very spicy.

Today, Year 6 tasted some Maya hot chocolatl as they were learning about the history of chocolate. As you can see from the photos, some children enjoyed it, but most did not!
